UK (Head Office in Wembley with regular travel to project sites in Central & Greater London) (Travel to Haughley Block Plant in Stowmarket will be required every three weeks or as needed due to business requirements)

Role Purpose
The Head of SHEQ is responsible for leading the company's Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality strategy across all business operations. The role ensures legal compliance, promotes operational excellence, develops a positive safety culture and drives continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
Working closely with Directors, Project Teams and Clients, the Head of SHEQ will ensure that SHEQ is embedded into every aspect of project delivery, supporting safe, sustainable and high-quality construction across all business activities.
The Head of SHEQ will also be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the independent management systems for Pyramid Builders Ltd, Wembley Innovation Ltd, Safestand Ltd & Haughley Block Plant Ltd, whilst maintaining associated accreditations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Develop and implement the company's SHEQ strategy aligned with business objectives.
Provide leadership and direction for the SHEQ function.
Promote a positive behavioural safety culture throughout the business.
Advise the SLT on SHEQ risks, trends and legislative changes.
Champion continuous improvement across all SHEQ disciplines.
Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant UK legislation.
Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 requirements.
Lead the implementation and maintenance of the company's Safety Management System.
Ensure compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Monitor project compliance through audits, inspections and performance reviews.
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, cause for concern and near misses.
Ensure robust root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
Review risk assessments, method statements and construction phase plans.
Develop annual SHEQ objectives and KPIs.
Environmental Management
Lead the company's environmental management strategy.
Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and client requirements.
Support delivery of sustainability objectives including carbon reduction initiatives.
Monitor waste management, pollution prevention and resource efficiency.
Develop environmental improvement plans across projects.
Promote biodiversity and environmental best practice.
Quality Management
Maintain and continually improve the company's Quality Management System.
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.
Drive quality assurance and quality control processes.
Monitor project quality performance in conjunction with the PBL Engineers and the Operations Director.
Lead lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reduce defects and improve customer satisfaction.
Compliance & Management Systems
Maintain ISO certification to:
ISO 45001
ISO 9001
ISO 14001
Prepare for and manage external certification audits.
Ensure internal audit programmes are completed.
Manage corrective and preventative actions.
Review policies and procedures regularly.
Maintain all other business accreditations, for example: Constructionline, FORS, FIRAS, Chas, Achilles etc. (This is not an exhaustive list)
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the senior SHEQ representative with clients.
Attend client SHEQ meetings.
Support bid submissions and PQQ responses.
Develop positive relationships with regulators and external bodies.
Represent the company during audits and investigations.
Performance Management
Develop and monitor SHEQ KPIs including:
AFR/LTIFR
Near miss reporting
Cause for Concern
Audit performance
Environmental incidents
NCR trends
Client SHEQ concerns
SHEQ Training compliance
Produce monthly Board report highlighting:
Performance trends
Key risks
Legislative updates
Improvement initiatives
Lessons learned
Results from Investigations
Training & Development
Develop the company's annual SHEQ training strategy.
Ensure competence across all employees and subcontractors.
Deliver leadership coaching on behavioural safety.
Support development of future SHEQ professionals.
Promote continuous professional development.
Risk Management
Identify strategic SHEQ risks.
Develop mitigation plans.
Support project risk reviews.
Review high-risk activities.
Monitor supply chain performance.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification)
Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) (or able to demonstrate working towards- Evidence will be required)
A Lead or Internal Auditor qualification for either (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001)
Desirable Qualifications
Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Management or Construction
Fire Management Qualification
IEMA Practitioner or Full Membership
Temporary Works awareness or higher
Experience
Essential
Significant senior SHEQ leadership experience within the UK construction sector.
Experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor.
Proven experience managing ISO-certified integrated management systems.
Experience supporting projects across multiple sectors such as commercial, industrial and residential.
Experience managing SHEQ on live construction projects.
Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
Experience working with principal contractors, clients and regulatory bodies.
Desirable
Experience working on national Infrastructure projects.
Experience of delivery of complex construction projects.
Experience of working on Network Rail and or TFL projects.
Experience of digital SHEQ systems (including client and accreditation portals).
