We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to take ownership of our enterprise network across multiple data centres. This is a hands‑on, design‑led role, ideal for someone who enjoys simplifying complex networks, improving resilience, and shaping future multi‑site connectivity.
In this role you will add value to PXP by:
- Having real ownership of network architecture and operations, the chance to modernise and simplify our infrastructure, and the opportunity to have a visible impact on the business.
You will work in a PCI DSS Level 1 certified environment, managing Cisco routers and switches, Fortinet firewalls, and stretched data centre networks. You will lead design, configuration, and operational improvements, with the chance to influence network strategy end‑to‑end.
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive, ownership‑driven mindset. In our agile, close‑knit team with a start‑up mentality, we value engineers who take initiative, identify opportunities for improvement, and propose practical solutions rather than waiting for tasks to be assigned. Growth in this role comes from increasing scope, responsibility, and impact by owning meaningful work and delivering real outcomes.
Successful candidates are comfortable working independently, communicating clearly, learning from mistakes, and continually improving systems and processes.
Our current environment includes:
- Cisco routers and switches across core and edge layers
- Fortinet FortiGate firewalls in HA configurations
- Multi‑site data centres with stretched network connectivity
- A PCI DSS Level 1 certified operation, requiring strong network security, segmentation, and disciplined change management
A typical week as a Senior Network Engineer might involve:
- Network Architecture and Design
- Lead the design and redesign of LAN, WAN, and data centre network topologies
- Simplify complex or legacy designs while maintaining appropriate control, security, and resilience
- Define network standards, templates, and reference architectures
- Produce clear network design documentation.
- Routing and Advanced Networking
- Design and operate routing architectures including BGP, OSPF, and static routing
- Manage GRE tunnels, inter‑site connectivity, traffic engineering, and failover
- Support and enhance DDoS mitigation strategies and incident response.
- Security and Firewalls
- Operate and develop Fortinet FortiGate firewall platforms, including HA configurations
- Design firewall architectures, segmentation, and policy aligned with PCI DSS Level 1 requirements
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance, zoning, and audit readiness.
- Multi‑Site and Data Centre Networking
- Design and maintain multi‑site data centre connectivity, including stretched networks
- Improve resilience, high availability, and disaster recovery capabilities between sites
- Optimise east–west and north–south flows, inter‑data centre routing, and failover behaviour.
- Leadership and Operations
- Act as senior technical authority and escalation point for network issues
- Lead and mentor network engineers, setting technical direction and best practice
- Drive lifecycle management, end‑of‑life remediation, and proactive infrastructure upgrades
- Oversee complex changes, projects, and major incidents.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience operating at a senior level in enterprise network engineering
- Expert knowledge in routing (BGP, OSPF) and multi‑site WANs
- Hands‑on experience with GRE tunnels, DDoS mitigation, and high‑traffic networks
- Strong experience with FortiGate firewalls and Cisco routers/switches
- Experience with stretched data centre networks and high availability
- Capability in leading or mentoring a small team
- Experience in security‑sensitive or compliance‑driven environments (PCI DSS Level 1 desirable).
