About the Team: We are the team that manages PXC's data centre estate, our mission is ensuring 100% availability of power, cooling, and security of the buildings that house our Network in order to provide ultra-reliable and fair connectivity to our customers. Working in partnership with various suppliers, the Data Centre Engineering Team are directly responsible for ensuring 100% uptime and availability of PXC’s data centre estate, both to internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This role has responsibility for all aspects of maintaining the PXC Data Centres, including commercial contract, co-location contracts, customer support for external colocation customers, BT exchanges and environmental support.
  • Ensuring all business-critical data centre environments are maintained at optimum levels, including power controls/usage, environmental and commissioning standards.
  • Consistency in data centre resources and or space utilisation in line with business drivers.
  • Part of the Field & Data Centre Engineering team under the HOD for Field & Data Centre Engineering, the role also includes a responsibility for on-going and long-term strategic development and implementation in line with business drivers and relevant stakeholder management.
  • Responsible for the physical and environmental security of site, equipment and people within the PXC Data Centre Estate.
  • Responsible for the maintenance & operation of the Data Centres to ensure zero unplanned downtime.
  • Standardise & maintain operating procedures and operating environment to ensure maximum resilience of services to our customers.
  • Responsible for the provision of physical capacity planning services for power, cooling and relevant Network & business groups including Space Allocation for IT equipment.
  • Establish space needs for users, determine data centre requirements / footprints and manage the site inventory.
  • Responsible for PXC energy & utilities management, carbon footprint, carbon management, and accountable for compliance to ISO50K1, including Data Centres, Offices, 3rd party colocation & OR exchanges.
  • Responsibility for engineering commissioning standards and adherence thereof; including centralised data management of inventory, space & power elements.
  • Responsible for development and day-to-day management of business grade preventative maintenance routines of all data centres and switch sites.
  • Responsible for the management of Process improvements, ensuring suitable process in place for all risk register items, i.e., fire risk assessment, security audits, power supply issues, within the Data Centres.
  • Responsible for the management and improvement of outsourced maintenance and operation contract, including budget management, KPI & SLA management.
  • Holding the 3rd party supplier accountable for any performance issues.
  • Responsible for the development and management of operational and capital budgets to support both KTLO and business case for improvements.
  • Management of capital engineering projects for facility improvements and expansion.
  • Responsible for Security (PCI / ISO27K1 and other telecoms standards) to ensure zero non compliances, 9001, 18k1 for Safety, within the Data Centres.
  • Responsible for the PXC colocation services, for management and maintenance of our hosting environments including customer liaison and support, for 3rd party colocation services at our Data Centres.
  • Operate as part of a call out rota for OOH escalations.
  • Responsible for the management of our 3rd Party colocation Data Centre Contracts, including financial, operational performance and change management.
  • Encourage regular performance reviews in place to ensure conformance to SLA’s.

What Will Make You Successful in this Role
