We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and implementing health and safety policies and systems, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and promoting a culture of safety within our organisation.
About Your Role
As the Health and Safety Advisor, you will be the go-to person for all things Health and Safety and will play an instrumental role in driving the ongoing overall Safety culture. Reporting into the Head of Property & Facilities, you will coordinate on all aspects of our Health and Safety framework across all our sites; including our HQ in Salford and Data Centres. We also have a team of Field Engineers who routinely work in telecom exchanges throughout the country. Working alongside our Health and Safety consultants, you will be someone who is enthusiastic about making a difference to the safety culture and build outstanding relationships within the business to facilitate this.
Key Responsibilities
- Health and Safety Policies and Systems: Review and implement our health and safety policy and procedures, risk assessments and systems to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
- Accident, near miss and incident response: Respond promptly to health and safety incidents, triaging investigations, implementing corrective actions and escalate as required.
- Liaison with Consultants: Work closely with external health and safety consultants to ensure compliance and address any issues.
- Communication with colleagues: Working closely with our Internal Communications team, ensure timely and engaging communications to influence and change safety behaviour.
- DSE Assessments and Reasonable Adjustments: Assess and review Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments and provide reasonable adjustments and support for colleagues.
- PEEPS and First Aid Support: Develop and implement Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS) and provide support as needed.
- Coordination of First Aid and Fire Wardens: Schedule and manage training programs, maintain sufficient numbers for each site and coordinate communication.
- Training of for all colleagues: Ensure that training is carried out by colleagues and, as required, support teams to ensure additional training needs are met.
- Driver Licence and Safety Checks: Conduct regular driver licence and safety checks to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Coordination of occupational health assessments: Working alongside our Occupational Health Provider and People Services Team to schedule, coordinate and follow up on assessments.
What will make you successful in your role?
- Hold, or to working towards a current NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practices.
- A great relationship builder and able to influence safety behaviour across the business.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A keen eye for detail and accuracy in work.
- Experience of working managing supplier relationships and performance.
- An understanding of and safety in electrical/telecoms installations.
- Proven experience on continuous process improvement.
