Holbrook Biomass Plant is a 6.5MWe biomass fired combined heat and power station is designed to provide CO2 savings of over 210,000 Tonnes over the project life. The renewable energy generated is equivalent to that used to power about 12,000 homes. The plant uses around 55,000 tonnes of waste wood per year that may have traditionally gone to landfill. px Group took on responsibility for the operations and maintenance, performance, emission monitoring and ash disposal from the site, as well as managing the biomass fuel on site. The contract supported the px Group strategy to grow their footprint in green energy with partners around the UK.
The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for an Operations Manager.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of a circa 6.5MW cyclopentane Turbine unit, one biomass boilers and all the auxiliary and ancillary plant used to support the burning of waste wood fuel and production of power.
As Operations Manager, you will act as line manager for the Operations team to ensure that all operations and functions associated with all main and auxiliary plant at Holbrook Biomass meet the generation and availability targets, safely, efficiently and in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure logs and routines are carried out correctly.
- Plant parameters monitoring, arranging for ash removals, arranging for site consumable deliveries.
- Shift cover for fuel operators in the event of sickness or training.
- Environmental reporting of incidents to line management and monitoring of site permit to work system.
- Identification and purchase of essential spares.
- Procedures and risk assessment of tasks.
- Carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Manage the compliance of equipment within the requirements of LOLER & PUWER
- Assisting site manager in outage/resource planning
- Deliver availability and reliability targets as agreed with the Asset Manager
- Champion and monitor SSoW and be accountable for the training and delivery to the operations team.
- Lead and deliver permitting and associated systems
- Be a focal point for the control and direction of the operations teams.
- Assisting in planning and delivering annual outages
- Expected to respond out of hours during emergencies and work occasional weekend during plan outages

Minimum Requirements:
- Be an Apprentice trained craftsperson.
- Qualified to at least HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
- Have sound understanding of process flow.
- Detailed knowledge of plant and maintenance systems and their functionality, especially computer based.
- Experience leading a small team gained in a Chemical, Waste Incineration or Power Generation environment.
- Be a leader in the promotion of excellent Safety Culture.
