Since 2011, px Group has managed the operations and maintenance teams at Stallingborough CHP plant. px Group has undertaken a series of outages designed to maintain and improve plant availability and reliability, along with several plant studies and projects on behalf of the plant owners to identify plant issues and improve asset integrity.
The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for an Operations Lead.
The primary function of the role is to manage and support the operational activities and team within the CHP. Responsibilities include advising on these areas to ensure practices, procedures, and systems comply with statutory requirements, industry standards, and px Group guidelines. The core function of this role will be to lead and manage the operations staff to achieve safe and reliable operation from the Stallingborough assets.
You’ll be supported with personalized on-the-job training, coaching, mentoring, and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain and develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct line management responsibility of the operations team and apprentices on site, including appraisals and absence management.
- Ensure safe, environmentally compliant CHP operation and maintenance by monitoring, inspecting, and controlling plant parameters, completing plant routines, and providing appropriate first-line maintenance.
- Provide start-up and shutdown services for plant systems and lead required emergency response drills.
- Identify and immediately report plant defects, observations, and anomalies that could affect safety or are abnormal to usual operations.
- Apply, manage, and monitor safe systems of work, CoW, including Putting People to Work, Authorization to Work, and px safety systems. Complete assigned safety role duties as appropriate.
- Assist plant engineers and the plant manager on plant projects, fault diagnosis, maintenance, outage preparation, implementation, and evaluation.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Minimum Requirements:
- Apprenticeship in operations, EC&I, or mechanical engineering.
- HNC or working towards HNC in a process or engineering discipline.
- Relevant operations experience in a 24/7 environment in operations, maintenance, or engineering roles.
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating systems, upgrades, improvements, and modifications.
- Fault diagnosis and problem-solving experience.
- Experience supporting outage planning and management.
- Able to produce and maintain site documentation, records, and procedures.
- Line management experience and managing contractors.
