The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for a Days Electrical Technician at TeesRep Biomass Plant in Middlesbrough.
You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
Key Responsibilities
The Electrical Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all electrical assets.
In this role you will support other disciplines within the Operations, Engineering and Maintenance Departments to ensure the safe and efficient reliability of the plant. You will ensure all work activities you carry out comply with the site Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and all legislative obligations. You will also have responsibilities with work activities overseeing contractors on site ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
Key responsibilities:
- To complete installation, calibrations, adjustments, troubleshooting and repairs on various types of power plant electrical equipment
- Respond to plant and equipment breakdowns.
- Provide consistently high levels of supervision of contractors at the site.
- Through research, prescribe preventative maintenance requirements for all electrical equipment for validation by engineering.
- Conduct preventive maintenance of Electrical Assets and assure the quality of executing all PM tasks including recording detailed information in the CMMS.
- Assist Engineering and Maintenance Engineers in troubleshooting and investigation of equipment trips. Also, attend critical equipment startups if required by the Operations Department..
- Respond effectively to emergency fault conditions, when required.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Ensure that all reporting within the Computerised Maintenance Management System is effective and followed through to completion promptly.
- Ensure all activities within the plant are carried out in a safe manner to prevent environmental impact ensuring this is in line with site Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and all legislative obligations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
The job holder will
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent apprentice served technician in a relevant electrical discipline; HNC desirable.
- CompEx certification to EX01-EX06 standards with regards to Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres regulations is preferred.
- Strong background of working hands-on with DCS, PLC and SCADA systems including version control management, access restrictions and testing. Preferably experience with Siemens, Schneider and ABB platforms.
- A foundational understanding of Alarm Management practices.
- A foundational understanding of the use of radioactive isotopes.
- A good understanding of plant processes and how electrical supports generation availability; preferably in a thermal power plant.
- Must have very good knowledge and be able to demonstrate proficiency in process control, maintenance and troubleshooting of Plant DCS/PLC equipment.
- Good understanding of associated limits and alarms and ability to troubleshoot and correct faults within hardware or software related systems.
- Knowledge of working with a Safe System of Work and permit to work system.
- Knowledge of reading P&IDs, electrical schematics, process and loop diagrams.
