This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a strong technical background and demonstrable experience in the support, facilitation and planned co-ordination of sites and projects from within the high voltage power or high voltage electrical engineering arena.
Our client is responsible for the construction, maintenance, upkeep, renewal, refurbishment and repair of electricity transmission and distribution networks, assets and systems. This includes sub-stations, overhead lines, underground cables, and all associated equipment such as switchgear and transformers.
Our client now wishes to appoint a Construction Site Manager to support multiple project and site activities, and take responsibility for the smooth and timely procurement, availability and movement of resources, including plant, labour, materials, and sub-contractors. You will assist the Project Managers and Operational teams to ensure that they are able to deliver all works to client specification, whilst always adhering to safety, quality and budgetary requirements.
You will have experience and understanding of hiring and managing sub-contractors, working to project scopes and specifications, maintaining good customer relationships and controlling site safety. Focused on delivery, you will be accountable for working to the CDM Construction Phase Plan and provide clear communication of the required scope, quality specifications and timelines, along with information of all hazards, risks and controls for work that are needed for the site teams and sub-contractors to complete their works on time, to a high standard and under budget.
The Role
- Site accountability for all completion of the Health & Safety processes including compliance with CDM Construction Phase Plans, Codes of Practice, Safety rules, point of work risk assessments, safety observations, incident reporting and all other related HSE policies.
- Act as a focal point for the client, site and office teams for project delivery and planning.
- Accountable for sites on projects over £1m and potentially cumulatively up to £15m, including producing all site project progress reports of related works on a weekly basis.
- To identify and explore contractor, supplier and other partnership efficiencies that will help both the short-term project and long-term company profitability goals.
- Organising site establishments and purchasing and arranging delivery of materials.
- Provide excellent customer service through clear communication and meeting expectations such as maintaining a safe, orderly and clean working area, achieving customer outage times and dates, and only accepting high quality work.
- Working in all conditions to solve daily challenges impacting programme delivery.
- Promote the company’s reputation through a positive attitude and behaviours.
- Good time keeping and a professional appearance.
- Stand in for the Project Manager as required.
The Person
- This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a strong technical background and demonstrable experience in the support, facilitation and planned co-ordination of sites and projects from within the HV power or HV electrical engineering arena.
- Trained and experienced managing sites, co-ordinating resources, materials and site activities within given budgets for HV power and electrical engineering focused projects.
- Experienced at working with long term project plans and developing short term site look-ahead plans using Microsoft Office.
- Gained a Construction Management NVQ, equivalent qualification or have completed a formal apprenticeship within a related engineering field.
- Hold a valid CSCS and an SMSTS.
- Experience working with LV and HV electrical system components, plant and equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communicator to manage both internal and external relationships coupled with good numerical skills.
- Hold a valid, full UK driving licence, along with the willingness to travel to site as required.
- Experience of site auditing and site safety management.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Sound team working and leadership, along with delegation and time management abilities.
- Experience of managing multiple sites, along with work and resource scheduling at site level.
- A good understanding of traffic management and associated enabling or civils works.
- A good knowledge of HSEQ compliance at site level.
