We are recruiting experienced Mechanical Fitters to support a major synchronous condenser grid stability project in South Wales.

This role is focused on the installation, assembly, alignment, and mechanical completion of flywheel systems and associated rotating equipment. You must have proven flywheel experience (or closely related rotating machinery such as generators, turbines, synchronous condensers, couplings, bearings, etc.) and be confident working to high safety and quality standards on a critical national infrastructure project.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical installation of flywheel systems and associated rotating equipment
  • Assembly and fitting of: Bearings, couplings, shafts, base frames, guards, skids and rotating components
  • Carry out precision alignment (laser alignment / dial gauge) and mechanical setting out
  • Bolting / torquing / tensioning to specification (hydraulic torque/tension equipment where required)
  • Assist with mechanical completion, punch listing, and QA walkdowns
  • Interpret engineering drawings, method statements and installation procedures
  • Support site activities including: Lifting plans & rigging support (working alongside crane teams / supervisors)
  • Troubleshooting mechanical issues during install
  • Lubrication / flushing activities (where applicable)
  • Work safely in accordance with project HSE standards, reporting hazards and participating in toolbox talks
  • Support commissioning teams during pre-commissioning / rotation checks where required

Qualifications

  • Proven Mechanical Fitter experience on flywheel installation projects (mandatory)
  • Strong background in rotating machinery installation within power / energy / industrial environments
  • Experience working to tight tolerances and precision alignment standards
  • Ability to read and work from: Mechanical drawings / layouts / GA drawings
  • Installation procedures and technical documentation
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality compliance on regulated sites

Required Skills
