We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Technician to support grid infrastructure works across substation, power transmission and grid stability projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out installation support, inspection, testing, calibration, loop checks, fault finding and commissioning assistance on instrumentation and control systems. This role will suit someone with strong site experience working around HV substations, switchgear, transformers, control panels, protection systems and SCADA/PLC interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out installation, termination, testing and inspection of instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Perform loop checks, point-to-point testing, signal testing and calibration of field instruments.
  • Support commissioning and pre-commissioning activities across grid support systems.
  • Fault find on control panels, instrumentation circuits, PLC/SCADA interfaces and control wiring.
  • Read and work from electrical drawings, loop diagrams, termination schedules and schematics.
  • Support testing of sensors, transmitters, actuators, valves, relays and control devices.
  • Assist with functional testing of control systems linked to HV equipment, transformers, switchgear and auxiliary systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with project specifications, method statements and safety procedures.
  • Complete site documentation, test sheets, inspection reports and commissioning records.
  • Work closely with electrical, commissioning, protection, mechanical and site management teams.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as an I&C Technician, C&I Technician, EC&I Technician, E&I Technician or Instrument Technician.
  • Experience on grid, substation, power transmission, power generation, energy or heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, control wiring, loop checks and commissioning support.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and loop diagrams.
  • Experience with SCADA, PLC, DCS or control panel systems is beneficial.
  • Experience working around HV substations, transformers, switchgear, AIS/GIS or grid equipment is desirable.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of site HSE procedures, permits, isolations and safe systems of work.

Preferred Certifications

  • CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent.
  • Medium Risk Confined Space.
  • ECS / JIB / CSCS or equivalent site card.
  • IPAF / PASMA desirable.
  • First Aid desirable.
  • HV awareness or substation safety training desirable.
