We are looking for an experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer to support major power transmission and grid infrastructure works across Scotland.
The successful candidate will take a lead role in coordinating and delivering commissioning activities across high-voltage substation, transmission, cabling and associated electrical infrastructure works. This role will suit someone with strong hands-on commissioning experience who is confident leading site teams, managing technical interfaces and supporting projects through to energisation and handover.
Responsibilities- Lead day-to-day commissioning activities on site from pre-commissioning through to energisation and handover.
- Coordinate commissioning engineers, technicians, subcontractors and specialist vendors.
- Carry out and oversee testing and commissioning of HV/LV electrical systems and associated infrastructure.
- Review and complete commissioning test sheets, inspection records, test packs and handover documentation.
- Support commissioning planning, method statements, risk assessments, test procedures and readiness reviews.
- Oversee testing and verification of switchgear, transformers, protection systems, control panels, SCADA, telecoms and auxiliary systems.
- Ensure all commissioning works are completed safely, correctly and in line with project specifications, quality standards and programme requirements.
- Identify, record and drive close-out of defects, punch-list items and non-conformances.
- Liaise with construction, electrical, QA/QC, HSE and project management teams to ensure systems are ready for commissioning.
- Support permits, isolations, switching interfaces and energisation preparation where required.
- Provide technical guidance and support to commissioning engineers and wider site teams.
- Maintain accurate records of completed testing, results, outstanding actions and handover status.
- Proven experience as a Lead Commissioning Engineer or Senior Commissioning Engineer on power, grid, substation, transmission, utilities or energy infrastructure projects.
- Strong hands-on experience with HV/LV electrical systems and commissioning processes.
- Experience testing and commissioning equipment such as switchgear, transformers, protection relays, control panels, SCADA, telecoms or auxiliary systems.
- Ability to lead site commissioning teams and coordinate subcontractors or vendors.
- Good understanding of commissioning documentation, test procedures, RAMS, permits and quality records.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and technical specifications.
- Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and technical reporting skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with site, engineering and project management teams.
- Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
- Previous experience on 132kV, 275kV or 400kV substation projects.
- Experience with GIS/AIS switchgear, protection and control systems, transformers, HV cabling or grid connection works.
- Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person experience would be beneficial.
- Previous work on transmission, distribution, renewable connection or major infrastructure projects.
- Relevant electrical engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent site experience.
