The Fire Watch plays a critical safety role during construction, installation, and commissioning activities for a synchronous condenser facility. This includes monitoring hot works, safeguarding personnel, identifying fire hazards, and ensuring immediate response capabilities in accordance with site safety procedures, project permits, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hot Work Monitoring
    • Maintain constant vigilance during all hot work activities (welding, grinding, cutting, brazing, etc.).
    • Ensure all hot work permits are valid and conditions are strictly followed.
    • Inspect work areas for combustible materials, ignition risks, or unauthorised activity.
    • Confirm fire extinguishers and emergency response equipment are present and functional.
    • Monitor the work area for a minimum of 60 minutes post-completion, or as specified by permit.
  • Fire Prevention
    • Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, potential ignition sources, and non-compliance.
    • Verify the implementation of isolations, screens, barriers, or fire blankets as required.
    • Ensure correct storage and handling of flammable materials on site.
    • Maintain clear access routes for emergency personnel and fire appliances.
  • Emergency Response
    • Act promptly to extinguish small fires using onsite fire-fighting equipment if safe to do so.
    • Raise the alarm and initiate emergency procedures for larger incidents.
    • Support evacuation of personnel in accordance with site emergency plans.
    • Ensure full understanding of muster points, alarms, and emergency communication protocols.
