We are looking for experienced Commissioning Technicians to support major power transmission and grid infrastructure works across Scotland. The successful candidate will assist with the testing, inspection, commissioning and handover of high-voltage substation, transmission, cabling and associated electrical infrastructure works. This role will suit someone with strong practical site experience within HV substations, utilities, grid connections or large-scale energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support commissioning engineers with testing and commissioning activities on site.
  • Assist with pre-commissioning checks, inspections, system walkdowns and readiness reviews.
  • Carry out functional testing, point-to-point checks, continuity checks and verification of installed systems.
  • Support testing of switchgear, transformers, protection panels, control panels, SCADA, telecoms and auxiliary systems.
  • Complete test sheets, inspection records, commissioning checklists and handover documentation.
  • Identify and report defects, punch-list items and installation issues.
  • Assist with fault-finding and troubleshooting during commissioning activities.
  • Work closely with electrical supervisors, engineers, QA/QC, HSE and site teams.
  • Ensure all works are completed safely and in line with RAMS, permits, procedures and project standards.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Commissioning Technician, Electrical Technician or Test Technician on power, grid, substation, utilities or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Good practical understanding of HV/LV electrical systems and site commissioning activities.
  • Experience supporting testing and commissioning of electrical equipment, panels, cabling or control systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail when completing test records and commissioning documentation.
  • Comfortable working in a live construction or commissioning environment.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
  • Previous experience on 132kV, 275kV or 400kV substation projects.
  • Experience with GIS/AIS switchgear, protection and control panels, transformers, HV cabling or auxiliary systems.
  • Experience with point-to-point testing, relay panel checks, continuity testing and functional testing.
  • Relevant electrical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent site experience.
  • CSCS/ECS, SSSTS, IPAF, MEWP or similar site certifications would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on commissioning technician with strong electrical site experience and a good understanding of testing, inspection and commissioning processes. They should be reliable, safety-focused and able to work closely with engineers and supervisors to support the successful delivery of complex HV infrastructure projects.
