Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Technician to support installation, termination, connection and testing activities on a Synchronous Condenser project.
The role will be hands-on and site based, with responsibility for I&C cable connections, cable termination, temperature instrumentation checks and verification of installed equipment. Candidates should have previous experience working within power generation, substations, energy, heavy industrial or similar electrical/instrumentation environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out I&C cable termination and connection activities.
- Terminate control and instrumentation cables into panels, junction boxes and field equipment.
- Check cable identification, cores, ferrules and termination points against drawings and schedules.
- Perform continuity and point-to-point checks on installed cabling.
- Inspect and verify cable connections prior to commissioning.
- Carry out temperature checking and verification of instrumentation.
- Check temperature sensors and associated connections, including RTDs, PT100s and thermocouples, where applicable.
- Verify correct installation and connection of temperature monitoring equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot incorrect terminations, damaged cables, connection faults and instrumentation issues.
- Read and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, termination drawings and cable schedules.
- Support I&C testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Record completed checks and report defects or outstanding works.
- Work closely with electrical, mechanical and commissioning teams.
- Complete all activities in accordance with project quality procedures and site HSE requirements.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience as an I&C, C&I, EC&I, E&I or Instrumentation Technician.
- Strong hands-on experience with cable termination and cable connections.
- Experience working with control and instrumentation cabling.
- Experience carrying out temperature instrumentation checks.
- Ability to read electrical and instrumentation drawings.
- Experience performing continuity, connection and point-to-point checks.
- Comfortable working independently in a site-based environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation safety procedures.
Desirable Experience
- Previous Synchronous Condenser experience.
- Power generation, power transmission, substation or grid infrastructure experience.
- Experience with synchronous generators, motors or rotating electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of RTDs, PT100s, thermocouples and temperature monitoring systems.
- EC&I commissioning or pre-commissioning experience.
- Experience working with OEM equipment and commissioning engineers.
