We are looking for multiple Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to join a well-established engineering team delivering innovative solutions across the UK nuclear sector. This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically challenging projects within a highly regulated environment, while enjoying a flexible hybrid working arrangement and the chance to mentor and develop junior engineers.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions across a range of nuclear projects. You'll lead design activities, provide technical guidance, undertake independent checking of engineering work, and support the development of junior engineers within the team. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in ensuring designs are delivered safely, accurately and in line with client and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and review high-quality mechanical design solutions
- Lead design activities from concept through to detailed design
- Carry out independent checking of engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, helping to develop technical capability across the team
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and project stakeholders
- Ensure designs comply with client specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and problem-solving activities
- Support the successful delivery of complex nuclear engineering projects
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
- Strong background delivering projects within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated industry
- Experience carrying out independent checking of engineering work
- Previous experience mentoring or technically leading engineers
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering best practice
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
- Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills
Desirable Experience
- Detailed design within the nuclear industry
- Safety-critical engineering projects
- Design reviews and technical assurance
- Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and quality processes
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
