Shift: Monday – Friday 21:00 – 06:00

Salary: £28,200 per annum plus an attendance bonus of £200 per month. £30,160 per annum plus an attendance bonus of £200 per month upon successful completion of VNA training and certification.

P W Gates is looking for a Trainee VNA Driver to join our hardworking and friendly warehouse team at our Chester – Matrix Court site. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid warehouse experience who is eager to learn, develop new skills, and progress into a fully qualified VNA Driver role.

Role Overview

As a Trainee VNA Driver, you will initially work within the warehouse environment for a period of approximately 8–12 weeks, gaining a strong understanding of our operations, processes, and safety standards. Once this initial period is successfully completed, you will move onto formal VNA training, where you will be taught how to safely and effectively operate a VNA truck and work towards achieving your VNA certificate. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is highly organised, and is motivated to develop a long-term career within warehousing and logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loading and unloading lorries as required.
  • Picking and scanning customer orders accurately using a PPT or other warehouse equipment.
  • Operating PPT and Counterbalance trucks safely and in line with company procedures and H&S standards.
  • Labelling pallets ready for storage or dispatch.
  • Occasionally reworking orders from Euro pallets to UK pallets in preparation for dispatch.
  • Carrying out general warehouse housekeeping duties, including cleaning work areas and maintaining tidy, organised aisles.
  • Supporting stock movement, put‑away, and replenishment activities at floor level.
  • Demonstrating safe working practices and adherence to health and safety procedures at all times.

Post Qualification

  • Picking and scanning customer orders accurately and efficiently using a VNA or PPT.
  • Operate a VNA safely and in line with company procedures and H&S standards.
  • Put away stock into designated racking locations and maintain tidy, organised aisles.
  • Labelling and preparing pallets for storage or dispatch.
  • Ability to meet daily picking and scanning requirements while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Occasionally supporting with other warehouse duties should operational needs require such as loading and unloading vehicles or reworking stock.

Requirements

  • Recent warehouse experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • A proactive, team‑oriented approach and good communication skills.
  • Proven reliability, good attendance, and a positive approach to work.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a busy warehouse environment.
  • Willingness to be flexible and support other warehouse functions as needed.

It would be an advantage if candidates also have:

  • Valid Counterbalance and PPT certificates.
  • Experience using PDA devices, handheld scanners, or scanning guns for picking and pallet scanning.
  • Previous experience operating MHE in a fast-paced or high-volume warehouse.
