An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Contracts Manager to join one of the South East’s leading Civil Engineering, Groundworks and Infrastructure contractors. With annual turnover exceeding £180m and a reputation as a preferred contractor across both public and private sectors, the business delivers major groundworks, infrastructure and enabling works packages throughout London and the South East.
Reporting directly into a Contracts Director, the successful candidate will oversee 3–4 live projects at any one time, predominantly across Energy Centres, Data Centres, Schools and Highway schemes. The company has built an enviable reputation since 1973 and continues to secure repeat business from a wide range of major developers, infrastructure providers, local authorities and principal contractors across the region. Previous and current works have included infrastructure, education, commercial and large-scale development schemes for clients across the public and private sectors. Projects are typically located across London and the Home Counties, although the business always aims to keep employees working as close to home as operationally possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the successful delivery of multiple civils and groundworks projects simultaneously
- Managing Site Managers, Engineers and project delivery teams across live sites
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget
- Maintaining strong client relationships and attending progress meetings
- Monitoring project performance, commercial exposure and programme milestones
- Coordinating subcontractors, labour, plant and materials across schemes
- Working closely with Commercial teams regarding valuations, variations and cost control
- Driving health & safety standards and ensuring company compliance procedures are adhered to
- Reviewing RAMS, construction programmes and site logistics plans
- Identifying and mitigating operational and commercial risks
- Supporting recruitment, mentoring and development of site-based teams
- Reporting regularly into the Contracts Director on project progress and performance
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Contracts Manager within Civil Engineering and/or Groundworks
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure, highways, drainage, foundations and external works packages
- Experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to manage programme delivery
- Strong client-facing and communication abilities
- SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications preferred
- Full UK Driving Licence
