We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Sustainability regulatory expert to join our growing Environmental and Sustainability Regulatory Legal team. This is a highâprofile role at the intersection of regulation and corporate strategy, offering the opportunity to advise leading businesses on the practical impact of evolving environmental and sustainability regulation across the UK, EU and globally. You will play a central role in helping clients navigate an increasingly complex web of obligations, from mandatory reporting frameworks to productâlevel regulation and supply chain due diligence requirements. The team's mix of legal and consulting work provides a unique opportunity to develop creative new offerings and see advice through to implementation for clients. You will also play a key role in developing the business, including anticipating market need as new laws emerge, and building and maintaining stakeholder relationships. You will be entrepreneurial, an excellent communicator, and comfortable operating in the uncertainty created by brand new law.
What your days will look like:
- Advise clients on a wide range of environmental and sustainability matters, including regulatory interpretation, compliance programme design, and horizon scanning for upcoming legislative changes.
- Own and manage client relationships and workstreams, overseeing projects from initiation through to delivery while mentoring and supervising junior team members.
- Contribute to business development and thought leadership by proactively driving business development initiatives and leading the preparation of client briefings, training sessions, and regulatory publications.
- Collaborate with colleagues and sustainability specialists across practice areas and jurisdictions to deliver integrated, multi-disciplinary advice in complex regulatory environments.
Qualifications
- You have a legal qualification (UK or EU), though equivalent experience in environmental consultancy, regulatory affairs, or inâhouse sustainability roles will also be considered.
- You have experience advising on mandatory and voluntary sustainability reporting regimes together with supplyâchain transparency, human rights and environmental due diligence requirements.
- You have strong knowledge of packaging regulation and taxation and productâlevel environmental regulation.
- You are familiar with emissions trading and carbon border mechanisms, and experience advising on greenwashing risk, environmental claims, and the formulation and substantiation of sustainability targets.
- You possess excellent analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory developments, and confidence presenting and engaging with senior, clientâfacing audiences.
- You have a genuine interest in sustainability and environmental policy, and the ability to identify emerging trends, and develop new client offerings.
