You will advise clients on their local and overseas tax affairs, act as a strategic consultant related to business analysis, manage working capital, and profit sharing for partners. You will also help organisations understand the pricing implications of goods and services between related parties, and provide advice on tax implications of deals. Our team helps clients improve their tax function to control risk and facilitate better decision making. You will focus on helping businesses with tax strategy, ensuring tax compliance, increasing post‑tax profits, and providing application support to achieve the best corporate tax practices.
About the role:
We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our Tax Innovation & Capital Incentives (ICI) team based within our Listed and Inbound (L&I) tax team. The team has a strong focus on growth and a wide range of clients across all industries including engineering, pharmaceuticals, food & drink, manufacturing, financial services and IT & software development. This role is a great fit for someone with a background in computer science or software engineering who enjoys learning about cutting‑edge technologies and wants to apply their software and technology knowledge in a client‑facing role. Our team is part of a large national network of ICI specialists and there is some flexibility on location. Members of our team come from diverse professional backgrounds including general tax, audit, and industry sectors, bringing together varied skills and perspectives to deliver exceptional client service. The role is client‑facing from day one, with an expectation to quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships, including independently leading client communications. Previous experience in R&D tax credits is not essential.
What you days will look like:
- Taking a lead role in managing the client relationship which can include managing deadlines, running parts of meetings, handling day to day queries and establishing your role as a trusted contact.
- Participation in interviews with client technical teams to support them in understanding the R&D tax legislation and identify qualifying R&D projects.
- Preparation of technical reports which highlight the R&D activities undertaken by our clients across numerous industries (Technology, Defence, Pharma etc.).
- Collaborate closely with internal financial teams to accurately quantify eligible R&D expenditures by understanding clients\' development activities and how these align with the definition of R&D.
- Actively explore ways to add value for our clients by leveraging expertise within the broader tax team and across other service lines within the Firm.
- The support and development of junior staff, sharing your knowledge and expertise through coaching and recognising the need for all levels of the team to develop through exposure to practical application of the legislation.
- Get involved proactively with business development and looking for opportunities to win work for existing clients of the business and new targets.
- Manage multiple stakeholders including our colleagues across the national ICI network.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on industry developments and tax regulations.
This role is for you if:
- Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Sciences, Technology, or related fields or industry experience in software engineering or IT.
- Strong ability to identify and articulate the research activities undertaken by our clients.
- Strong written and verbal skills are a must to enable you to take a lead role with clients and also liaise effectively with our team and the wider tax team at PwC in translating complex technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to be autonomous and \'lead self\' as you will be required to work independently and take responsibility for your own development.
- Passion for client service and general enthusiasm is key as you will be encouraged to actively deal with clients at all levels of seniority.
- Strong organisational skills are a must in order to manage working on a number of clients across our portfolio, often with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Excel/analytical skills would be beneficial to enable you to understand the numerical aspects of claims and compile these.
- Good problem‑solving skills - you will be expected to think for yourself and come up with potential solutions/approaches.
