About the role
At PwC, the Capital Projects Risk & Control team typically reports to the Head of Assurance, PMO Assurance Leads, Internal Audit or CFO, providing expert challenge and scrutiny over project delivery and third‑party relationships to improve outcomes for capital projects, such as reduced cost or risk. We deliver complex programmes of work using a high‑performing team diverse in experience in performing capital project reviews, programme and baseline assurance commercial and deal shaping / re‑shaping and negotiation. We're seeking talented, high‑performing professionals to join our team across all levels of experience. What your days will look like
- Leading and managing work‑streams within a larger engagement, supporting the delivery of advisory and assurance services on major capital programmes.
- Delivering reviews on capital projects throughout their lifecycle, providing observations, recommendations and proposals to clients to help them plan and execute their projects on time and on budget, and supporting the implementation of these.
- Assessing the compliance, effectiveness and maturity of the project management and project controls activities and supporting the implementation of agreed improvements to help the clients monitor, control and mitigate their risks on costs, schedules, scope and quality.
- Reviewing contracts and commercial matters on capital projects (i.e. major deals / business cases / commercial strategies) and providing observations, recommendations and proposals to clients to help them optimise their controls.
- Leading or supporting the formation and / or review of complex third‑party arrangements on capital programmes.
- Leading and performing supplier compliance and dispute resolution activities, to investigate value leakage or identify poor performance on capital programmes.
The role is primarily client‑facing at a senior level in often time‑pressured environments; whilst there is frequent scope to innovate, recommendations must be based upon clear commercial logic and a robust understanding of the client's unique circumstances and issues.
This role is for you if
- Experience in the development, delivery and / or assurance of major capital programmes, ideally within sectors such as energy, water, transport or central government.
- Project controls, commercial management or quantity surveying backgrounds, combined with the ability to apply this experience in an advisory and assurance context.
- Having done one or more of the following roles:
- Supporting or leading project controls and/or project management activities on large, complex EPC or infrastructure programmes, including cost, schedule, risk and performance management.
- Advising on or delivering project controls, commercial strategy and programme assurance within professional services and/or client‑side environments.
- Developing and stress‑testing business cases and project execution strategies, with a clear understanding of delivery risk, affordability and value for money.
- Structuring and implementing commercial and contracting arrangements (e.g. NEC/FIDIC), including an appreciation of incentives, risk allocation and behavioural impacts.
- Leading or supporting procurement and supplier engagement, including negotiation and contracting strategies for major programmes.
- Interpreting and challenging programme data to provide clear, evidence‑based insights to senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- 2:1 or above class degree (any subject) or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience working in capital projects – would typically expect 2 years plus for Senior Associate roles, 5 years plus for Manager roles and 8 years for Senior Manager roles.
