Renishaw's Machine Tool Products leads the market in delivering innovative, high accuracy measurement solutions to CNC machining processes around the world. The ongoing innovation of our high precision measurement devices has created a requirement for a new Senior Software Engineer to help us develop the programming and data analysis tools necessary to bring these products to market. This position will form part of a small team of software engineers, developing and maintaining software products written in C++ targeted at an embedded Linux platform. The team has an excellent working atmosphere and uses an Agile development approach.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and development of software applications and libraries
- Develop algorithms relating to geometry fitting and coordinate system transformations
- Assist in the requirement capture and specification of new applications
- Help deliver customer-facing applications
- Assist in the deployment of customer projects
Key Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a STEM discipline with strong mathematical aptitude
- High level C++ programming language experience
- Python programming experience
- Experience using and developing software for Microsoft Windows
- Experience of writing and debugging complex multithreaded applications
- Knowledge of ATL, COM, MFC and writing GUI applications for Windows
- Experience using the Linux operating system
- Experience developing software products for embedded industrial applications
Desirable Requirements
- CNC machine tool controller software API knowledge (Fanuc, Siemens, OKUMA and Mazak)
- Understanding of process control and metrology on machine tools
- Understanding of CNC machine tools and spindle probing
- Ability to write and understand G-Code programs for CNC machine tools
- Trained to operate CNC machine tools on the shop floor
- Experience of using CNC machine tool simulation systems
Person specification
The successful applicant will be a problem solver who works well in a collaborative team environment. There is also an R&D element to the role, so scientific thinking is occasionally required. The role could develop to have some customer focus, so applicants should have a good balance of technical ability and assured presentation.
