Deputy Facility Safety Case Owner (FSCO) – Submarines (Principal Engineer).

Full Time, Thurso.

This role supports the maintenance of a safety envelope underpinning the operation of systems, structures and components to support facility operations and the safe delivery of key site programmes at Rolls-Royce Submarines – Vulcan NRTE.

The Deputy FSCO will be part of a team of facility safety case owners, safety case practitioners and assurance staff reporting to the Vulcan Chief Engineer, providing safety assurance and supporting operations at the Vulcan NRTE.

The site is engaged in significant programmes of work, offering opportunities to develop experience in the nuclear industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist the FSCO in maintaining a safe envelope and providing safety oversight for nuclear facilities and key site programmes.
• Ensure safety implications are fully considered and changes are appropriately sponsored and approved through site due process.
• Ensure the facility is optimised to comply with the ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) principle.
• Provide practical and technical advice on applicable site safety management arrangements, facility and process safety cases, considering enterprise and industry best practice.
• Provide cover for the FSCO, enabled by comparative qualification to FSCO level.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience working within an engineering discipline is essential.
• Degree-qualified in an engineering or science-based subject, or relevant industry experience. Nuclear industry or other well-regulated environment experience is highly desirable.
• Good understanding and demonstrable experience of safety case production, development and review.
• Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (verbal and written); able to interface confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to write well-structured reports presenting clear arguments with sound recommendations.
• Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to delivering continuous improvement in challenging circumstances.
• Good project management skills.
• Professional registration through a recognised institute is desirable.
• Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance; Rolls-Royce will support the application if not already held.

• Due to the nature of work and asset protection, you must hold UK nationality.

Dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
