We're looking for an experienced backend engineer, working on the core technology that powers our platform.

About us

Since its launch in 2018, Gener8 has been at the forefront of the "open data" movement: the belief that people should be able to control and be rewarded from their own data.

Gener8's consumer products include IOS and Android apps, a web browser and a browser extension.

Our products enable people to transparently share their data with Gener8, whilst preserving their privacy, and to earn rewards in return for doing this.

On the B2B side, the data products that Gener8 creates enables businesses to make faster, smarter decisions.

Our customers include some of the world's largest Big Tech companies, leading AI companies and prominent organisations in finance and Ad Tech.

About the role

A few of the things in our backlog that you could be working on

  • Extending, improving and optimising our data APIs that ingest well over 100 million events a month.
  • Creating new data feeds for our commercial partners that deliver valuable data to drive business decisions.
  • Creating brand new APIs and endpoints to support our mobile apps.
  • Improving, upgrading & refining our entire cloud based infrastructure

You’ll be working closely with our existing product and engineering team, including Staff backend engineer and Head of Engineering.

On the backend we use Go, Postgre SQL and Redis to serve RESTful and g RPC APIs running on Kubernetes, all hosted on GCP.

We use Git Hub for version control and CI, Jira for tracking tasks and Slack for sending silly GIFs.

Responsibilities

  • Building new features, modifying existing ones and fixing bugs as they arise
  • Writing automated tests to keep the quality of our products high
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of our infrastructure through automated monitoring and alerting
  • Planning and executing upgrades of key pieces of infrastructure
  • Working closely with the product team to refine new features and requirements

This is the right opportunity for you if you have

  • 5+ years commercial experience building systems with Go
  • Experience writing RESTful APIs in production environments
  • Experience using some flavour of SQL for data persistence
  • Experience documenting APIs with Swagger / Open API
  • Experience working with event driven systems
  • Experience building cloud native solutions
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
