We support some of the world’s leading companies within the space and defence sectors, and are now looking for an experienced Senior MMIC Design Engineer to join our expanding engineering team at our state‑of‑the‑art headquarters in NETPark, Sedgefield, County Durham, UK.
This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of microwave and millimetre‑wave technology, designing world‑class MMIC solutions operating from 37GHz to 115GHz and beyond for next‑generation communication and defence systems.
Responsibilities
Working alongside our highly experienced RF, microwave, electronics and systems engineers, you’ll take ownership of the design and development of high‑performance MMICs, helping bring innovative products from concept through to production.
You’ll be involved in challenging projects where performance, reliability and manufacturability are critical, whilst having the opportunity to influence technology direction and mentor other engineers.
- Design and layout advanced MMICs using technologies including Ga As, Ga N and In P
- Develop high‑performance Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), Power Amplifiers (PAs), Gain Blocks, Up & Down Converters, Variable Attenuators and Frequency Multipliers
- Select appropriate semiconductor process technologies for new designs
- Carry out circuit simulation, optimisation and design verification
- Produce complete design documentation and support fabrication release
- Work closely with semiconductor foundries throughout development
- Perform thermal analysis, reliability (MTBF) assessments and validation testing
- Develop test specifications and characterise devices using our state‑of‑the‑art RF laboratories
- Participate in and lead technical design reviews
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver products on time and to specification
Qualifications
- Degree, Masters or Ph D in Electronic Engineering, RF Engineering, Microwave Engineering or equivalent commercial experience
- Significant industrial experience designing MMICs within the semiconductor industry
- Strong experience designing RF amplifiers, LNAs and frequency conversion circuits using Ga As and/or Ga N MMIC HEMT technologies
- Excellent hands‑on RF measurement and device characterisation skills using probe stations and RF test equipment
- Experience taking designs from concept through fabrication and verification
- Strong understanding of RF/microwave communication systems
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of WIN Semiconductor PP10‑1x process technology
- Experience of millimetre‑wave products operating above 37GHz
- Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience
