Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Senior Accountant II, Revenue Accounting to support revenue accounting activities for the distributor region and partner closely with finance, commercial, and global accounting stakeholders.

The Senior Accountant II, Revenue Accounting supports accounting for the Company's product revenues, including certain gross-to-net liabilities and accounts receivable. This role works closely with Finance teams and third-party in-country distributors to support the accuracy of revenue and other customer support items, while contributing to month-end close, automation, and data analytics initiatives. The position supports the Revenue Accounting Manager, distributor region, in the preparation of revenue accounting journal entries, forecast alignment, group reporting, month-end close activities, data analysis, technical reviews under US GAAP, rebate and contractual claim reviews, financial controls, general ledger reconciliations, and SOX and compliance activities for the Region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build trusted partnerships and maintain open communication with the Revenue Accounting Manager and Revenue Accounting Senior Manager, International and Global Revenue Accounting teams (based in the head office in Boston, US), and broader international and US corporate stakeholders.
  • Perform month-end close activities for revenue accounting; including but not limited to:
    • Prepare monthly gross-to-net revenue journal entries.
    • Analyze gross-to-net accounts, including discounts, rebates, and pharma fees, across multiple countries in line with contractual agreements.
    • Resolve gross-to-net account variances and internal stakeholder queries.
    • Analyze sales forecast information to determine accrual estimates for discounts, rebates, and pharma fees.
    • Prepare revenue recognition journal entries based on contractual agreements.
    • Reconcile gross-to-net revenue accounts.
    • Prepare and review pharma fee calculations.
    • Support forecast-to-actual analyses working with accounting, finance, and commercial teams.
    • Provide timely insight on the revenue accounting implications of new product launches, reimbursement arrangements, distribution agreements, new customer contracts, and contract extensions.
    • Partner with the Order to Cash team to help ensure contracts are operationalized correctly.
    • Monitor reimbursement agreements for appropriate revenue recognition and continued compliance with key terms.
    • Support commercial teams with external reporting requirements, payback, rebate invoicing, and forecast alignment.
    • Review and support distributor reconciliations for margins, pricing updates, and pharma fee payments, including accurate invoicing.
    • Prepare regional group reporting requirements.
    • Perform data analysis to support business and account reviews.
    • Prepare general ledger account analysis and reconciliation of complex gross-to-net revenue accounts.
    • Support all month-end close activities for revenue accounting, including SOX compliance, controls, and general ledger reconciliations.
    • Support internal and external audit requests for SOX, group, and statutory audits.
    • Provide disclosure support for SEC quarterly and annual reporting in HFM.
    • Contribute to simplification, continuous improvement, data analytics, process improvement, and system reporting initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Experience in an accounting environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Experience
  • Excellent technical knowledge of accounting and finance processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including advanced Excel expertise.
  • Experience supporting general ledger reconciliations, SOX compliance, group reporting, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in US GAAP revenue accounting.
  • Experience in a service‑driven function with a business partnering focus within a multinational shared service or Global Business Service organization.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive, flexible, and detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
