We are currently looking for a Quality Control Technician to join us at our facility in Huthwaite.

Full-time - Permanent - Huthwaite Manufacturing Site

About the Role

The QC Technician is responsible for all aspects of QC within the Laboratory activities at Axalta Liquid Coatings Huthwaite Ltd.

The QC chemist is to ensure that the customer receives products that meet the relevant specification.

Activities include, overseeing the manufacture of paint and paint related products, analysis / testing of incoming raw materials and finished paint products, lab testing and analysis of non-conforming products.

Key responsibilities

  • P erform routine quality testing and inspection of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products in accordance with approved test methods and specifications.
  • Evaluate colour, gloss, viscosity, density, appearance, and application properties including salt spray test prior to batch release.
  • Support batch adjustment recommendations based on laboratory test results.
  • Maintain laboratory calibration schedules and equipment verification records
  • Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results and support corrective actions.
  • Investigate product defects, customer complaints, and internal quality incidents.
  • Record and report test results accurately within laboratory and quality systems.
  • Support retention sample management and product traceability requirements.
  • Participate in waste reduction, right-first time, and process capability improvement throughput.
  • Drive and maintain 5S activities within the laboratory, ensuring the workplace remains clean, orderly, and compliant with company standards always.
  • Maintain safe storage and handling of highly flammable materials by ensuring inventory limits are not exceeded, all containers are properly labelled, and materials are stored in designated approved containers in compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct or coordinate internal audits and corrective action required to assure that all processes to meet the requirements of Quality Management System.

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English, and Science.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, coatings, chemical, automotive, Aerospace or quality environment.
  • Knowledge of quality control testing and inspection techniques.
  • Understanding of quality management systems.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Desirable
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Aerospace or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience with QC testing of paint coating systems.
