Overview
You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the NUCLEAR ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT, NUCLEAR TEST ENGINEERING DIVISION of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of naval nuclear propulsion plants to current and planned work.
- Apply detailed knowledge of reactor plant operations, water chemistry control, radiological control, radiological work practices, and shipyard administrative procedures during overhaul or refueling.
- Develop innovative approaches and resolutions to problems and situations encountered in the course of work.
- Serve as a qualified Shift Test Engineer in accordance with NAVSEA 0989-028-5000, Manual for the Control of Testing and Plant Conditions.
- Utilize knowledge of related scientific principles, particularly higher mathematics and physical and engineering sciences.
- Apply fundamental engineering concepts, terminology, and the units of measurement and their interrelationships across engineering disciplines.
Qualifications
- Experience: At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level (or pay band) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must include the items described in the Responsibilities.
- Applicants should demonstrate experience applying advanced knowledge in naval propulsion plant developments and related engineering practices as described in the job posting.
