We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Group Accountant to join our Finance Team for a fixed one-year contract to cover an internal secondment. Experienced in management accounting, you will manage a small team supporting the Assistant Director for Finance to deliver accurate reporting to management and the Director of Finance to ensure sound governance.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading a small team in producing high-quality revenue and capital monitoring
  • Production of quarterly monitoring reports to be scrutinised by the Strategic Leadership Team and Councillors
  • Handling enquiries from budget holders and directors, providing strategic advice on budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes
  • Promoting strong financial governance and sharing best practice & support on legislative and guidance changes
  • Identifying, developing and supporting opportunities and initiatives to transform the delivery of services across the Council, whilst promoting continuous improvement

About you

  • CCAB qualification or relevant experience and an excellent working knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines, and a concern for order and accuracy
  • Experience within a busy finance team, with a flexible approach to work, with a keenness to adapt and develop new ideas and initiatives to meet changing work requirements
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about working in local government
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to accurately summarise and convey complex information
