- Purpose of the role
The Workshop Engineer is responsible for the effective maintenance of the Knowles Logistics fleet, performing daily re‑active and pro‑active maintenance under the direction of the Fleet Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Maintenance
- Repair and maintain lorries and vans, performing restorative and preventative work on all aspects of the vehicles.
- Inspect vehicles to MOT standard and diagnose faults.
- Service and repair customer vehicles or components using appropriate equipment and tools safely and economically.
- Maintain current product knowledge and attend training courses as required.
- Carry out roadside assistance and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Adhere to H&S working practices and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness.
- Teamwork
- Daily interaction with the Fleet mechanical team to manage workload effectively.
- Communication
- Communicate planned maintenance with the Fleet Manager and provide updates on re‑active maintenance to transport and traffic teams.
About you
- Must haves
- Minimum of 2 years experience or qualification in motor mechanics such as City & Guilds Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or a BTEC National Certificate in Vehicle Repair and Technology.
- Excellent knowledge of motor technology and strong interest in heavy & light vehicles.
- Good communication skills, able to work well in a team and autonomously following instruction.
- Ability to work under pressure with good concentration and focus.
- Good manual dexterity.
- Methodical, organised and able to work to strict deadlines.
- Ability to advise customers on technical issues.
- Knowledge of regulations relevant to workshop and transport industry tasks.
- Own transport and full UK driving licence.
