About the role
The Loans & Affordability Platform offers a forward‑thinking and diverse team. The role sits in the Loans Lab where you will work in a strong collaborative way to create, build, support and improve our backend software, working closely with product and engineering teams. As a core contributor you will ensure good quality and engineering practices are followed in accordance with the engineering transformation strategy and will work with the Lead Engineer.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer you will:
- Design, build and test backend microservices and RESTful APIs.
- Develop high quality, well‑tested and robust code that meets engineering standards.
- Maintain and improve backend systems using Java (17+) and Spring/ SpringBoot.
- Work with containerised services such as Kubernetes and cloud technologies, preferably GCP.
- Create tests and pipeline integrations to prove strong and maintainable code.
- Participate in agile development methods; use Kanban, Jira, Confluence and work in a cross‑disciplinary team.
- Coach and support other engineers to grow and reach their potential.
- Engage in continuous improvement of technical practices and tools.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in Java (17+) and Spring Framework development.
- Strong experience in Microservice Development using SpringBoot.
- Experience designing, building and testing backend microservices and RESTful APIs.
- Good experience with containerised services (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of Cloud technologies, preferably GCP.
- Good awareness and understanding of database design.
- Ability to create tests and work with pipelines for maintainable code.
- Understanding of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end‑to‑end delivery of software products.
- Experience with agile development methods and tooling (Kanban, Jira, Confluence).
Preferred Experience
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience with DevOps tooling such as Harness.
- Experience with Quarkus framework.
