Opportunity
We are looking for a technically strong Casualty specialist to join our Business Insurance Underwriting Office team as a Regional Underwriting Officer.
In this role you will work with internal underwriting teams to manage and implement underwriting standards across the UK.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis: full‑time employees work three days a week in the office and two days from home (or pro‑rata for part‑time employees).
The policy may change at the company’s discretion.
Responsibilities
- Implement and participate in the development of short and long‑term underwriting strategies to position BI Retail and regionally traded products for the right market segments.
- Ensure underwriting controls, including cures and audit, are taken and acted upon promptly.
- Act as an advisor or referral point to support responsible product development that aligns with profit, growth, and retention strategies.
- Participate in strategic business planning activities for BI Retail and Small Business at the regional and national levels to increase market presence and meet growth and profit goals.
- Develop and leverage broker/client relationships through a high level of visibility.
- Work tactically with brokers to ensure they understand BI Retail goals and objectives.
- Provide underwriting leadership at regional underwriting meetings as appropriate.
- Utilise detailed monitoring standards to assess underwriting results and propose solutions.
- Analyse local market needs and trends to support marketing initiatives and provide competitor information to product and portfolio management staff.
- Mentor and coach underwriting staff in conjunction with regional and branch management to achieve production, standards, and profitability objectives.
- Maintain relationships with internal resources (Risk Control, Claims, Operations, etc.) to ensure effective operation of underwriting and marketing decisions.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher education level.
- Previous proven track record of leading others at a senior underwriting level.
- Advanced proficiency in organisation, financial acumen, communication, collaboration, presentation, networking, risk selection, and critical and analytical thinking.
- Advanced proficiency in leadership competencies: change management, strategic planning, decision‑making, results orientation, influencing, leadership, power, business perspective, risk taking, innovation, and navigating the organisation.
- Advanced proficiency in leading others: forging synergy, developing employees, building collaborative relationships, effective communication, leveraging differences, participative management, and leading employees.
- Advanced proficiency in leading self: openness to influence, flexibility, leadership stature, self‑awareness, credibility, and seeking opportunities to learn.
- ACII qualification.
- Advanced experience of Property & Casualty Underwriting.
