A Brief Overview

This role within the UK Business Development function will help to grow and develop RGA's business in the UK and Irish markets, including defining and implementing strategy, owning some of our key products (and being accountable for the success of those products), owning various client relationships in the UK & Irish marketplace, and leading sourcing, filtering, strategy and execution of reinsurance transactions such as standalone and flow longevity swaps, funded re and acquisitions.

The individual will enhance RGA's reputation within the marketplace by representing RGA in industry through thought leadership and relationship development with buyers of reinsurance, banks, consultants and other external stakeholders.

They will work as part of the UK leadership team to maintain RGA's reputation in the market for best in class client service and deal execution.

Close collaboration with pricing, investment solutions and other subject matter experts and internal functions is critical.

What you will do

  • In conjunction with the wider teams, ensure RGA meets its new business and financial targets in the reinsurance marketplace.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of product strategies and action plans for prospective new opportunities and new clients, working with other teams to design and structure solutions.
  • Part of UK Leadership team, driving the growth of the UK business.
  • Establish and prioritise market opportunities.

Respond to tenders and ad-hoc client queries in a timely manner, seeking input from other functions where required, driving strategy and monitoring progress.

  • Lead negotiation and structuring of reinsurance solutions to develop executable transactions.

Lead the execution of transactions.

Track issues, internal and external challenges and ensure all RGA procedures are followed, and approvals obtained.

  • Develop relationships at primary clients, brokers, banks and consultants, including C-suite.

Own key client accounts, including driving client related initiatives.

Position RGA as the trusted advisor and reinsurance partner of choice.

  • Gain market intelligence, insights into market activities, and partnership opportunities. Communicate insights to the wider team and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Enhance RGA's reputation and brand in the market by presenting at seminars and publishing articles in industry press, etc.

Help to develop and implement the UK marketing and branding strategy.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Understand international accounting, solvency and other regulations impacting clients in the assigned geographies (e. g.

IFRS17, Solvency 2) and share expertise with others in RGA via the relevant working groups and project teams.

  • Understand financial statements, embedded value reports and other public information for major account clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10‑15 years' insurance, reinsurance, or finance experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in client facing/sales/structuring role.
  • Proven ability to lead a deal team through a complex execution process and negotiate with large clients on high value transactions.
  • Related degree, or equivalent experience and professional qualification is preferable.
  • An understanding of insurance accounting, tax, regulatory requirements, and investments.
  • This role may suit a qualified Actuary, however it may also suit candidates with a non‑actuarial background.
  • Sound understanding of local markets and a detailed understanding of the drivers of financial services industry.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage teams with layers of management and influence key stakeholders internally and externally.
