The Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team at Amazon keeps vital machinery running and safe. As an RME Technician, you will maintain a wide range of equipment and workspaces while upholding Health and Safety practices, helping to prevent machine downtime and keep colleagues safe. The RME Technicians aim to boost equipment availability and quality and improve the operational environment across sites.

Responsibilities

  • Proactive and preventative maintenance tasks on a wide range of site equipment
  • Carry out reactive repairs and fault diagnosis in a live distribution warehouse
  • Use the latest tools to maximise equipment effectiveness
  • Uphold all health and safety policies and practices
  • Support the development and progression of on-site apprentices
  • Work on continuous improvement projects and roll out best practices across a range of EU sites

A day in the life

RME Technicians are based on-site, responding quickly to machinery issues. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance to site equipment to ensure safe operation, respond to breakdowns, investigate causes, and implement fast solutions. You will also suggest long-term improvements, work alongside senior colleagues on day-to-day maintenance tasks, and liaise with contractors when external expertise is required. Shifts may be arranged to provide around-the-clock support for sites.

About the team

Our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment across Amazon’s global fulfillment network. We focus on keeping buildings compliant, safe, and operating efficiently. The team includes leaders who oversee work on exciting technology, including installations of automated packaging systems and maintenance of key distribution equipment. There are opportunities for progression within the RME team and across Amazon.

Potential impact

Everything we do reduces downtime in Amazon’s operations, helping ensure orders are delivered on time. We may work during early or late hours, including night shifts, to minimise disruption while maintaining site performance. There is potential to develop and implement new processes, such as Amazon Robotics and the Complex Item Sorter.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 / SVQ Level 3 / IVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 / EAL Level 3, all specialized in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics
  • 4 years UK certified apprenticeship
  • Advanced proficiency in the local language verbally and in writing
  • Relevant experience as a qualified engineer
  • Relevant experience working in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with material handling equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety standards
  • Experience with robotic operation and maintenance
  • Experience in condition-based monitoring
  • Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on MHE and automated conveyor systems
