Overview
Product Controller | Energy Trading.
We are partnering with a leading international energy trading firm seeking an experienced Product Controller to support a high-performing Front Office trading business.
This commercially focused role works directly with Traders across complex commodities markets, providing accurate P&L reporting, valuation control and financial insight on a broad range of derivative products.
The role offers exposure to sophisticated trading strategies across Power, Gas, LNG, Environmental Products and other commodity markets in a fast-paced Front Office environment.
Responsibilities
- Produce, review and explain daily P&L for multiple trading desks.
- Deliver accurate daily, weekly and monthly P&L reporting to Front Office stakeholders.
- Perform detailed P&L attribution, analysing market moves, new trades, time decay and valuation adjustments.
- Challenge trader marks through Independent Price Verification (IPV) processes.
- Review valuations across complex financial and physical derivative portfolios.
- Analyse balance sheet movements and support month-end close activities.
- Investigate pricing discrepancies, booking issues and trade lifecycle exceptions.
- Work closely with Traders to understand strategies and explain financial performance.
- Partner with Market Risk and Finance to ensure appropriate valuation controls are maintained.
- Support new product approvals, valuation methodologies and model governance.
- Drive automation and process improvement initiatives across Product Control.
Requirements
- Significant Product Control experience within an Energy Trading firm, Commodity Trading House or Investment Bank.
- Extensive experience producing and explaining daily trader P&L.
- Deep understanding of complex derivative products, including futures, forwards, swaps and options.
- Experience supporting commodity trading desks covering Power, Gas, LNG, Oil, Environmental Products or broader energy markets.
- Strong knowledge of valuation methodologies and Mark-to-Market principles.
- Experience performing Independent Price Verification (IPV).
- Strong understanding of Fair Value Adjustments (FVA), reserves and valuation controls.
- Excellent knowledge of the full trade lifecycle.
- Experience partnering directly with Traders and challenging Front Office valuations where appropriate.
- Advanced Excel skills with SQL experience; Power BI, Python or VBA would be advantageous.
