- Job Overview
As an Indirect Tax - Vice President in the Tax Department, you will work within a top-ranked global and EMEA international banking group.
You will be part of an experienced and broad VAT team, developing deep knowledge of the banking sector across EMEA and contributing to all aspects of VAT risk management for the business.
The role provides advisory services and support to the Global Investment Bank and extends to other areas of the group, including the International Consumer Banking business and a digitally focused bank, with exposure to EMEA tax considerations across investment banking, markets, private banking, asset management and custody services.
- Job Responsibilities
- Analyze the Global Investment Bank line of business detailed model across several EMEA locations, including assistance in product and territory expansion.
- Transform existing processes to enhance management information, drive reporting efficiencies, and mitigate tax risks, including consideration of new technology solutions to support all aspects of the indirect tax profile.
- Understand line of business products and provide ongoing advisory services.
- Develop knowledge of local VAT regimes applicable to relevant jurisdictions and transactions/products, covering both technical and practical aspects.
- Communicate VAT risks succinctly and clearly to tax and non‑tax colleagues, escalating risks internally within the team as appropriate.
- Advise internal senior stakeholders.
- Work with external tax advisors and partner internally with global Corporate Tax colleagues and other non‑tax stakeholders (Business, Legal, Finance, Operations, etc.).
- Required Qualifications, Skills and Capabilities
- Accounting or Tax qualification, e. g., ICAEW or CTA
- VAT advisory experience at least at Manager level in a Big 4 or equivalent in‑house environment.
- Detailed understanding of UK/EU VAT principles.
- Some knowledge of VAT compliance requirements and processes.
- Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Capabilities
- Strong communication and structured written skills, with the ability to work well in a team.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to formulate commercially sound solutions.
- Quick learner with a positive attitude and professionalism, and an interest in understanding new business operations and/or financial services product offerings.
- Ability to work independently, managing own workload and projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Functional knowledge of MS Excel, Power Point and other applications.
- CTA (indirect tax route preferable).
- Knowledge/experience of VAT issues in the financial services sector desirable.
