A leading global investment management organisation is seeking an experienced Head of Insurance Risk to take ownership of its international insurance programme and provide strategic leadership across insurance, risk transfer and captive management.

This is an initial 12 month contract with the view to extend or be made permanent.

This is a highly visible position operating within the Risk and Compliance function, offering extensive exposure to senior stakeholders across a complex global business.

The successful candidate will act as the organisation's principal insurance subject matter expert, partnering with business leaders, legal, governance, people, compliance and external market participants to ensure effective and commercially appropriate insurance solutions are in place.

The Opportunity

You will be responsible for shaping and delivering the Group's insurance strategy, overseeing a significant Financial Lines and global General Insurance portfolio, managing the strategic direction of the corporate captive, and supporting the ongoing development of employee benefits risk financing arrangements.

The role requires a strong understanding of risk transfer solutions, insurance market dynamics and stakeholder management, combined with the ability to influence at executive and Board level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Group's insurance strategy and insurance risk function.
  • Manage the placement and renewal of global insurance programmes in line with risk appetite and budget objectives.
  • Oversee major Financial Lines placements, including D&O and related coverages.
  • Direct the strategic management of the Group captive insurance vehicle.
  • Develop and enhance employee benefits insurance and risk financing solutions.
  • Manage insurance claims from notification through to settlement.
  • Provide insurance expertise across client due diligence, contractual reviews, supplier assessments and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead broker and insurer relationships, including procurement and tender processes.
  • Present insurance strategy, programme renewal recommendations and market insights to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders.
  • Monitor insurance market developments and identify opportunities to improve programme effectiveness and value.
  • Partner with key stakeholders globally to ensure insurance arrangements continue to support business growth and operational objectives.

Experience required

  • ACII, IRM or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Significant experience managing complex international insurance programmes.
  • Deep expertise across Financial Lines insurance, including D&O, Professional Indemnity, Crime and Cyber.
  • Strong knowledge of global General Insurance programmes.
  • Experience of captive insurance, reinsurance structures and/or employee benefits risk financing.
  • A proven ability to influence senior executives and operate at Board level.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience managing insurer and broker relationships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Previous experience within Asset Management, Wealth Management, Banking, Insurance or broader Financial Services would be highly desirable.
