About the Role

  • Grade Level (for internal use): 12
  • The

Team: You will join S&P Dow Jones Indices' Index Investment Strategy team, a global research group with a strong external market presence and responsibility for high-profile, data-led investment research.

The role is focused on the SPIVA® Scorecards and related analytics, which are widely recognised benchmarks for evaluating active versus passive investment performance.

Working with colleagues across London, Hong Kong, and New York, you will support research connected to major benchmarks including the S&P 500®, i Boxx® fixed income indices, VIX®, and other leading index families.

The Impact

This is a hands-on, quantitatively focused role with ownership of a globally recognised dataset and the analytical workflows that support one of S&P DJI's flagship research franchises.

You will help strengthen the quality, scalability, and usability of the SPIVA platform by improving how data is sourced, validated, analysed, and delivered.

As a Grade 12 Associate Director, you will be expected to operate with autonomy, take accountability for sustainable analytical systems rather than individual outputs, and use your expertise to advise colleagues on complex data, methodology, and research questions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, oversee, and enhance the analytical processes that support the production of S&P Dow Jones Indices' SPIVA® Scorecards.
  • Build, maintain, and extend scalable analytical pipelines, reporting tools, and core datasets using modern data and AI-enabled tools where appropriate.
  • Interrogate, validate, and analyse data from multiple sources, with a strong focus on data quality, reproducibility, robustness, and clear documentation.
  • Evaluate new data sources and recommend practical ways to extend the scope, quality, and capabilities of the SPIVA platform.
  • Take accountability for the operating model behind the dataset and analytics, ensuring workflows are sustainable, efficient, and fit for global use.
  • Conduct original research and, in collaboration with a research director, scope and deliver new research initiatives that translate data into clear investment insight.
  • Partner with research, commercial, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand priorities, incorporate diverse perspectives, and build buy‑in for analytical recommendations.
  • Support and empower colleagues through the tools, datasets, and analytical frameworks you develop, acting as a subject matter expert on complex matters within your area.
  • Communicate complex analytical ideas clearly in written materials, internal discussions, and external-facing research outputs.
  • All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week

What We're Looking For

Basic Required Qualifications

  • Typically 5-8 years of experience in a data-driven role, ideally within financial services, investment research, indices, asset management, market data, or a related environment.
  • Strong hands‑on Python experience applied to data workflows, including data cleaning, validation, analysis, automation, and repeatable reporting processes.
  • Experience working with large, real‑world financial datasets and applying structured approaches to improve data quality, reliability, and usability.
  • Experience building or maintaining analytical pipelines, research toolkits, reporting frameworks, or similar data products used by wider teams.
  • Strong analytical judgement and the ability to consider multiple possible courses of action, make evidence-based recommendations, and influence buy‑in through data.
  • Comfortable operating in a hands‑on, ownership-oriented role with a high degree of autonomy and limited day‑to‑day direction.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical or analytical concepts to both specialist and non‑specialist audiences.
  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to build trust, support colleagues, and work effectively across teams, functions, and geographies.
  • Intellectual curiosity, sound judgement, and an interest in investment research, market trends, and the active versus passive investment landscape.

We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in‑person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global office.

This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.

  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures, such as data lakes or lakehouse environments, and platforms including Databricks, Snowflake, or similar tools.
  • Exposure to performance analytics, benchmark analysis, backtesting, or investment research methodologies.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools or automation techniques to scale analytical workflows, improve efficiency, or enhance research output.
  • Knowledge of index products, asset classes, portfolio analytics, or the broader financial services ecosystem.
