Overview
As a part of the Mechanical R&D team for upper limb prosthetics, you will be a Test Engineer responsible for the design, build and implementation of test methodologies for both development projects and existing products in the Bionic Upper Limb portfolio of a global prosthetics company.
You will provide hands-on support and expertise across functions, focusing on robust and innovative testing solutions to support product development, verify design solutions and understand long-term capability of complex electro-mechanical products.
You will be highly motivated, self-driven and able to communicate testing criteria, project progress and workload planning across departments.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Technology Managers and Project Managers to deliver departmental objectives and goals.
- Develop, implement and own testing procedures that support new product development and maintenance of existing products, with minimal oversight.
- Systematically analyze failures during testing using root cause analysis methods.
- Independently design, build, qualify and maintain test fixtures to support defined testing procedures.
- Provide informed information on development tasks to enable successful planning.
- Translate technical and functional design requirements into testing requirements to support testing procedures.
- Work with Design & Development Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to identify product areas that require testing at modular and full-product levels.
- Maintain equipment for testing procedures, including equipment calibration management.
- Document and present testing results in a structured manner to guide Engineering Staff.
- Work to Medical Device Regulations to complete and maintain necessary paperwork for Product Verification.
- Manage your workload and communicate priorities and potential negative impacts effectively.
Qualifications
- HNC, HND, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
- At least 4 years of experience as a Mechanical Test Engineer or similar role; medical sector experience is preferred.
- Expertise in both Mechanical and Electrical testing, including the ability to design and develop test equipment and processes.
- In-depth knowledge of equipment for Mechanical and Electrical testing, including data acquisition and interpretation.
- Demonstrated capability in Computer-Aided Design with a proven record of delivering test fixtures with basic control elements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize work per defined guidelines.
- Ability to provide mechanical or electrical specifications to outside suppliers for bespoke equipment procurement.
- Comfort with hand tools and ability to plan, build and validate working systems.
- Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal, in formal and informal settings.
- Preferred: Solid Works experience, software-driven testing equipment, basic electronics knowledge, and proven Root Cause Analysis skills.
