Liverpool John Moores University International Study Centre are recruiting a Computing tutor to join the existing teaching team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching modules in Computing to students on university preparation programmes offered by the Centre.
The right candidate will have a natural ability to motivate students and deliver high quality teaching as well as carrying out relevant pastoral functions.
You will enjoy working with international students, be performance driven and be able to work co-operatively and flexibly with other colleagues within the centre and across the network.
We are looking for a patient tutor who is committed to providing an interesting and effective blended learning experience to our students.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high quality teaching to groups of international students.
- Undertake marking and feedback on a formative and summative basis, in line with quality standards and processes.
- Act as a Module Leader in relevant subject areas, including coordinating a team of tutors, updating module handbooks, preparing module assessment analysis and review reports, and developing detailed schemes of work.
- Deliver schemes of work, set assessments, and mark these in a timely manner.
- Teach up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (teaching contact time).
- Implement enhancement and enrichment activities across the curriculum (inside and outside the classroom).
- Ensure student punctuality, attendance, and appropriate behaviour in class/teaching rooms.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance and assessment grades.
- Maintain progression risk tracking and student performance data.
- Support each student to achieve their best performance during their course and in final assessments.
- Promote differentiation in the classroom and the creative use of TEL (technology-enhanced learning).
- Ensure the VLE (virtual learning environment) meets provider and university standards for the modules taught.
- Contribute to the preparation of mid- and end-of-term student reports.
- Create and update teaching materials and undertake projects as directed by Curriculum Leaders and/or Director of Campus and Operations.
- Provide cover where necessary.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings and assessment boards, where necessary.
- Keep up to date with developments in academic teaching and skills, including e-learning resources.
- Work in a collegial fashion and foster productive relations with ISC and HEI colleagues.
- Contribute towards continuing professional development (CPD) and lead on relevant CPD sessions.
- Carry out any other duties as required by the Curriculum Leaders and/or Director of Campus and Operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the subject area.
- Masters and/or Ph D in the subject area (desirable).
- Relevant teaching qualification.
- Proven teaching experience in further or higher education (ideally with international students on university preparation courses at foundation level).
- Experience in developing and updating teaching materials and in working with a Virtual Learning Environment.
- Experience in assessment marking and moderation (desirable).
- Experience in assessment design (desirable).
