Overview

Lincoln Bishop University is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Psychology Technician to provide technical support to teaching teams, researchers and students.

This role supports learning, teaching, research, conferences and events within Psychology, which sits within the Institute of Health alongside Psychology, Sport, Health and Social Care, and Counselling.

The Department seeks to recruit the equivalent of 1.0 FTE Psychology Technician support.

Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work either full-time or part-time.

Depending on the recruitment outcome, the Department may appoint either one full-time Psychology Technician or two part-time Psychology Technicians whose combined hours equate to 1.0 FTE.

The successful candidate(s) will support laboratory and experimental work, prepare and maintain specialist equipment, assist with health and safety risk assessments, and provide technical support for students and academic staff.

The role may also involve supporting specialist psychology software, online experiment creation, and updates to VLE materials.

For candidates interested in developing a research career, there may be an opportunity to undertake a Ph D alongside a part-time technician appointment (minimum 0.5 FTE).

Any Ph D application, supervisory arrangements and proposed research project will be subject to the University\'s normal postgraduate research admissions and approval processes.

Successful applicants approved for doctoral study could be eligible for a University tuition fee waiver in accordance with institutional policy.

Responsibilities

  • Support psychology teaching and research activity.
  • Prepare, set up, coordinate, maintain and demonstrate specialist apparatus, equipment, materials and tools.
  • Support the use of specialist software including SPSS, Steam VR, Quirkos, SONA, Bio Pac, EEG, and JISC Online Surveys.
  • Assist with the administration of online participant pools.
  • Update methods materials and student guidance on the VLE.
  • Help maintain safe, tidy and well-organised technical spaces.
  • Work collaboratively with academic and technical colleagues.

About you / Qualifications

  • Organised, conscientious and self-motivated; confident with IT and specialist software.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team; able to communicate effectively with staff and students.
  • Flexible and willing to take on a range of technical duties.
  • Experience of working in a psychology laboratory, supporting students, and using statistical or research software would be advantageous.
  • Salary: £24,865 to £26,707 per annum (pro-rata).
