Overview

FTE: 0.8 FTE (working 29.6 hours per week - Fixed Term) and 0.8108 FTE (working 30 hours per week - Permanent).

  • Duration of Contract: 1 year fixed term maternity cover; 1 permanent.
  • Annual Leave: 30 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the office closure between Christmas and New Year.

  • About the Team

Our business partnering team provides solution-focused, practical, hands-on advice to managers and staff across the University and its subsidiary companies.

The team is highly valued by managers and acts as the primary contact for people-related matters.

Business Partners act as the conduit between the wider HR team and the Strategic Business Units (SBUs) with autonomy, collaborating to achieve success for each unit and maintain consistency of approach across the University.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day strategic and operational HR support for SBUs with a full generalist remit.
  • Assist managers early in identifying HR implications of change management strategies and workforce planning.
  • Coach and influence managers to develop people management and leadership skills; constructively challenge inappropriate behaviours or actions.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven HR case work experience, including disciplinary processes, grievance, absence management, and claims of harassment and bullying; support for change management projects.
  • Experience with trade unions and, ideally, public sector environment.
  • Experience developing and delivering workshops for staff and managers; ability to manage stakeholders in a partnering relationship and prioritise conflicting demands.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to negotiate, persuade, and develop professional working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative while contributing to the team and maintaining consistency.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent; substantial proven work experience.
  • Professional HR qualification and CIPD membership.
