Overview
Senior Band 6 Nurse Substance Misuse, Location: Surrey.
Permanent role with The Forward Trust, delivering high-quality clinical assessment, treatment and support to prisoners on their recovery journey in partnership with HM Prison Service and other key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, effective nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Work autonomously while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Handle sensitive information professionally, maintaining confidentiality and empathy.
- Promote physical and psychological wellbeing, manage risk and safeguarding concerns.
- Administer and monitor prescribed medication in line with clinical protocols and governance standards.
- Contribute to service development and the continuous improvement of clinical and psychosocial interventions.
- Provide leadership and clinical supervision to junior staff, deputising for the Lead Nurse when required.
- Participate in clinical governance meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with NMC and Forward Trust standards.
- Commit to continuous professional development, staying up to date with Department of Health guidelines and ensuring NMC revalidation requirements are met.
- Represent The Forward Trust and HM Prison Service with professionalism and integrity, promoting partnership working and continuity of care.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Current NMC registration as a nurse and eligibility to practice as a substance misuse nurse.
- Experience at Band 6 or equivalent, with leadership responsibilities such as supervision and deputising.
- Experience delivering evidence-based interventions for recovery and wellbeing.
- Ability to work in a prison environment, manage confidential information, and adhere to governance standards.
- Enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting required (checks may take up to 5 months; overseas residence may extend processing).
- Strong communication, risk management and documentation skills.
