This is an exciting opportunity to join the Haematology Department at Frimley Park Hospital as a part-time Consultant Haematologist (6 Programmed Activities) within a team of 6 Consultant Haematologists. Working closely with 7 consultants at Wexham Park Hospital, the post contributes to an integrated haematology service across Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide specialist care for patients with benign and malignant haematological disorders through consultant-led outpatient clinics, including general haematology, thrombosis services, and support for Two Week Wait cancer pathways. Care will be delivered through a combination of face-to-face and virtual consultations. The role also includes liaison haematology, providing specialist advice to clinical teams across the Trust, contributing to laboratory reporting, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, referral triage, and Advice & Guidance (A&G) services. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care while supporting efficient patient pathways and high-quality clinical decision-making.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide high-quality consultant-led haematology care as part of the Haematology Department at Frimley Park Hospital. Working within a multidisciplinary team, they will deliver specialist care for patients with benign and malignant haematological conditions.
The role includes:
- Delivering consultant-led outpatient clinics, including general haematology and thrombosis clinics.
- Assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with a range of haematological disorders.
- Providing specialist advice to clinical teams across the Trust through liaison haematology services.
- Contributing to laboratory reporting, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and diagnostic services.
- Triaging referrals and responding to Advice and Guidance requests.
- Undertaking clinical administration, including reviewing results, completing clinic correspondence, and managing patient follow-up.
- Participating in clinical governance, audit, teaching, service development, and continuing professional development.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with medical, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, and allied health professional colleagues to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred haematology services.

Job responsibilities
The post is a part-time Consultant Haematologist appointment comprising 6 Programmed Activities (PAs) and includes the following responsibilities:
Outpatient Clinical Services (2 PAs)
- Deliver two consultant-led outpatient clinics per week, including one thrombosis clinic and one general haematology clinic.
- Assess, investigate, diagnose, and manage patients with benign and malignant haematological disorders.
- Manage new and follow-up patients.
- Support urgent and suspected cancer referrals, including Two Week Wait pathways.
- Liaise with primary care and referring specialties to ensure coordinated patient care.
Clinical Administration (1 PA)
- Review laboratory and diagnostic results.
- Complete clinic correspondence and clinical documentation.
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records.
- Arrange investigations, follow-up appointments, and treatment plans.
- Undertake patient-related administrative activities arising from clinical care.
Liaison Haematology (1 PA)
- Provide specialist haematology advice to clinicians across the Trust.
- Review inpatient consultation requests and support inpatient management.
- Respond to telephone and electronic clinical queries.
- Contribute to the management of the shared consultant email inbox.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.
Laboratory Reporting and MDT Working (1 PA)
- Report peripheral blood films, bone marrow aspirates, and other haematology investigations.
- Review provisional reports completed by resident doctors and provide consultant supervision.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and diagnostic case discussions.
- Support urgent diagnostic pathways, including Two Week Wait referrals.
Advice and Guidance and Referral Management (1 PA)
- Review and triage referrals to the haematology service.
- Respond to A&G requests.
- Prioritise urgent referrals and ensure timely access to specialist services.
- Support efficient patient pathways and appropriate onward management.
Supporting Professional Activities
The post holder will also be expected to:
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development.
- Maintain continuing professional development, appraisal, and revalidation requirements.
- Teach and supervise junior medical staff, medical students, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Comply with Trust policies, mandatory training, and professional standards.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- MRCP or equivalent; FRCPath or equivalent
- Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- UK-trained applicants must also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- Non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

- Able to evaluate own clinical practice

Skills
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in laboratory and clinical aspects of Haematology

- Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence-based practice
