As our Driver Technician Trainee 7.5t, you will be supported through a 90‑day Customer Delivery Driver trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence. You will have the unique opportunity to bring our distinctive John Lewis service right to our customers’ doors and install the products they love into their homes (furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems, TV sets) as part of a 2‑person delivery crew.
All applicants must be 18 or over by their start date. In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 18:00 and 22:00 will attract an Evening Premium of £2.75 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 and 06:00 will attract a Night Premium of £3.75 per hour. This also applies to partners who have enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.
Key Responsibilities- Perform daily checks and assist in loading your vehicle with the daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
- Show great respect and courtesy for the customer’s home, and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for customers.
- Install various products (including wall‑mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard‑wired appliance installations) efficiently and quickly, demonstrating how they work once installed.
- Keep up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
- Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations, to maintain a safe working environment.
- Complete the 90‑day programme based on individual input into the programme; completion may vary based on training needs.
- Perform heavy lifting and deliver large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.
- UK B‑Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
- Previous experience in a customer‑facing role.
- Great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
- Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.
- Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
- Previous role model or team leader experience.
