We are looking for a colleague who is keen to join our team delivering exceptional healthcare in a picturesque, rural setting. Our District General Hospital (DGH) offers a varied job plan with exposure to a diverse range of clinical cases. The role encompasses a broad spectrum of specialities including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Gynae, Robotics, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Trauma. We have a modern purpose-built Anaesthetic Department with excellent office and teaching facilities. The Anaesthetic Department is currently fully engaged in the Royal College of Anaesthetists 'Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation' (ACSA) Programme, and is the first hospital in Wales to achieve accreditation.

Main duties of the job

  • Contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorate as determined by the Consultant and provide a high quality service to the local population.
  • Assist in the supervision and teaching of trainees.
  • Participate in trainee teaching rota.
  • Contribute to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives.
  • Co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services.
  • Travel as necessary between hospitals / clinics. A planned and cost-effective approach is expected.
  • Be capable of teaching novice anaesthetists in theatre.
  • Participate in regular Post Graduate sessions that currently take place in the Anaesthetic Department and the Hospital Education Centre.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview.
  • Final FRCA (or non UK equivalent).
  • ALSATLS.

Experience

  • Extensive range of Anaesthetic skills and knowledge through training post or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in the NHS.

Skills and Abilities

  • General and regional anaesthesia for a range of surgical specialities to all age groups over the age of one.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good team leader and team member.
  • Ability to develop services.
  • Keen to develop clinical and other skills.
  • Obstetric anaesthesia.
  • Regional anaesthesia for upper limb surgeries.
  • Competent to transfer patients for specialist care.
  • Willing and able to teach trainees in theatre on attached lists.
  • Willingness to participate in departmental teaching.
  • Proven ability in preparing and delivering teaching material.
