Pushkin House, an arts charity in central London, is seeking a suitably committed and qualified person to serve on its Board of Trustees in the role of Treasurer. Pushkin House is an important and vibrant cultural, art and social space that explores, challenges, and debates Russian culture and identity today. In dialogue with other regions, we focus on the contested legacies, tumultuous present, and possible futures of Russian, Eastern European, and post-Soviet geocultural spaces.
Our public programming, exhibitions, and community engagement – across history, literature, and the visual and performing arts – share connections among individuals, disciplines, periods, and cultures. We engage themes of identity, citizenship, migration, displacement and belonging, and strive to be an open space for initiating critical enquiries and relationship-building.
We are a registered charity, responsible for our eighteenth-century listed building in central London. We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and support the Board, Director and the team in ensuring the charity's long-term financial stability and sustainability. The Treasurer will have oversight of Pushkin House's financial health, working closely with the Chair, Director and Finance Manager while providing strategic advice and guidance to the Board.
You will ensure sound governance, robust financial management, and compliance with statutory reporting requirements. You will also review budgets, management accounts, and annual financial statements, advise on financial planning and reserves, contribute to overall strategy, and help the Board understand the financial implications of strategic decisions. The role requires a strong understanding of charity finance, governance, and risk management, as well as the ability to interpret complex financial information for non-specialist Board members. Passion and understanding of the transformative role of cultural organisations in the current geopolitical and economic context is a very welcome bonus.
We anticipate this role will take up approximately one day per month, plus attendance at board meetings and key events. While Trustees, including the Treasurer, are not remunerated, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute your financial expertise to a vibrant cultural organisation and help shape its future.
We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from qualified accountants or finance professionals, or those with relevant experience in financial oversight, investment, fundraising strategy, or financial governance in the charity sector.
If you are interested in becoming a Trustee and our Treasurer, please send a covering letter outlining your interest in Pushkin House and what you would hope to bring to our Board (maximum 1 side of A4) along with your CV. We also accept video or audio files in lieu of a written letter – please ensure these are no longer than 5 minutes. Applications should be sent to trustees@pushkinhouse.org.uk.
The closing date for expressions of interest is March 31 2026, with interviews taking place in mid to late April.
