This role will own the design, delivery, and operationalisation of data platforms, pipelines and machine learning solutions that power business insights, product intelligence and personalised player experiences.
This is a hybrid leadership position designed for a highly technical visionary. You will bridge the gap between complex data engineering, advanced analytics, and executive decision-making. As a PhD-level expert, you will not just manage a team; you will architect the future of our data ecosystem within Snowflake.
Role Overview
- Location: UK (office in London) / Malta / Poland / Gibraltar / Isle of Man.
- Department: Data & Analytics
- Reports to: Director of Data and Analytics
- Direct Reports: Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of Data Engineers to build scalable, resilient data pipelines.
- Define the roadmap for data architecture, ensuring it supports both real-time reporting and long-term AI initiatives.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and agile delivery.
- Hands-on Power BI Excellence
- Act as the "Lead Architect" for Power BI, designing sophisticated, high-performance dashboards that provide actionable insights into player behaviour and game performance.
- Implement rigorous DAX patterns and data modelling standards to ensure a single source of truth across the organization.
- Data Science & AI Product Development
- Leverage your PhD expertise to design and deploy machine learning models directly within Snowflake (using Snowpark, Streamlit, or SQL-based ML).
- Develop AI-driven products such as player churn predictors, automated risk assessment tools, or game recommendation engines.
- Own the full ML lifecycle, from hypothesis and feature engineering to production deployment and monitoring.
- Snowflake Infrastructure & Engineering
- Direct the engineering team in optimizing Snowflake environments for performance and cost-efficiency.
- Oversee the transition from raw data to refined, analytics-ready layers using modern ETL/ELT practices (e.g., dbt).
What you’ll bring to the role:
- PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Data Engineering: Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing complex data warehouses (Snowflake preferred).
- Visualisation: Expert-level proficiency in Power BI, including complex DAX, Power Query (M), and administrative settings.
- AI/ML: Deep experience with Python/R and SQL. Specific experience with Snowpark or Snowflake's AI/ML features is a significant advantage.
- Gaming Industry: (Preferred) Experience with high-volume, real-time data typical of the iGaming or Fintech sectors.
- Strong experience in leading Data Science or AI teams.
- The "Player-Coach" Mentality: You are equally comfortable in a 1-on-1 career coaching session as you are debugging a complex SQL query or tuning a neural network.
- Analytical Rigour: The ability to apply academic-level scientific methods to commercial business problems.
- Communication: Translating "black box" AI models into clear business strategies for non-technical stakeholders.
