Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager to join Tilda and play a key role in leading the company's Health, Safety and Environmental function. You'll be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, driving continuous improvement, developing robust management systems and promoting a positive safety culture across the business, while supporting Tilda's ambitious sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, including PUWER, Working at Height, Confined Spaces, Legionella, DSEAR, COSHH, Fire Safety and Manual Handling.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, including the HSE and Fire Authority.
- Lead company and site Health & Safety meetings, ensuring agreed actions are completed.
- Develop, implement and manage the company's risk assessment programme.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Coordinate accident reporting, including RIDDOR submissions.
- Manage insurance compliance requirements, including Written Schemes of Examination.
- Conduct audits of the Health & Safety Management System across all business areas.
Occupational Health
- Support HR in identifying health surveillance requirements through risk assessments.
- Manage occupational health clinics and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with individual health capability assessments for specific job roles.
- Regularly audit facilities to ensure workplace health risks are effectively managed.
- Support insurance and liability claims through thorough accident investigations.
Environmental & Sustainability
- Monitor, record and report on energy usage across all sites.
- Coordinate energy reduction and environmental improvement programmes.
- Maintain statutory and corporate environmental reporting.
- Participate in Sustainability Team initiatives.
- Develop, implement and continually improve the Environmental Management System.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience within an FMCG or food manufacturing environment, or a similarly high-risk manufacturing sector.
- A minimum of five years' experience in a senior Health, Safety & Environmental management role.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
- Professional membership of IOSH (CMIOSH or working towards Chartered status preferred). IEMA membership would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and industrial hazards, including PUWER, DSEAR, COSHH, Working at Height and Manual Handling.
- Experience developing and maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 Management Systems.
- Experience working with external regulatory authorities, including the HSE and Environmental Health Officers.
- Experience delivering training, coaching and mentoring across all levels of the business.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and commercial initiatives, including ESOS, Climate Change Levy (CCL), environmental permitting and sustainability reporting.
- Experience supporting sustainability objectives, including Net Zero and waste reduction programmes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A pragmatic, hands‑on approach with strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
- Flexibility to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation when required.

- Annual holiday allowance 25 days. After 4 years completed service, it will increase to 26 days and after 5 years completed service it will increase to 28 days.
