Purpose/ Summary
The Material Handler position is responsible for moving and transferring raw material, detail parts, sub-assemblies, final assemblies, reworked and miscellaneous components through all of the phases of manufacturing and testing processes.
Core Duties And Responsibilities
- Monitors and dispatches the movement of materials from work center to work center
- Ensures that the work center that is performing the operation reviews and signs off on the process sheets
- Makes recommendations to improve the organization of the shop floor and expand visual control systems
- Operates electric pallet jack and all other required material handling equipment to ensure the safe transportation of product to the appropriate work center without the part incurring damage
- Advises the appropriate Supervisor and/or Production Planner of any hardware on hold due to paperwork or systems related problems
- Conducts a visual inspection (view for dents, dings, scratches etc.) of the product for any obvious damage before transporting from any of the outgoing shelves; immediately notifies the respective Supervisor of the area of any damage
- Notifies respective and immediate Supervisors of any damage that occurs during the transportation of product
- Assists the Bond Room attendant with various duties (receive, store, issue, cycle count and kit etc). when outgoing shelves are empty
- Returns empty racks to their respective locations or where needed throughout the day
- Keeps racks and material handling equipment clean and free of dust and foreign objects
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill & Ability
- Computer skills
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Good mathematical skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent and
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience
- Valid Florida drivers license
- Company issued Fork Truck license
Work Environment
Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, acetone, alcohol, argon, braze alloys, nitrogen, hydrogen, oil based lubricants and cleaning solutions; occasionally exposure to moderate cold and extreme heat; noise level in the work environment is usually middling.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; ability to communicate verbally and have the ability to hear; required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop or crouch; occasionally required to sit; must regularly lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds; vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
