Mechanical Fitter Special Purpose Machinery Assembly

A busy and established engineering firm is currently looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to support the assembly of bespoke machinery. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building a variety of mechanical systems from engineering drawings, ensuring high-quality standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical components and systems based on technical drawings and specifications
  • Perform general sub-assembly and full machine build tasks, from small parts to large sections
  • Install bearings, taper lock pulleys, gears, and associated drive components
  • Route and fit pneumatic and hydraulic pipework
  • Use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Carry out inspections to verify quality and accuracy of completed assemblies
  • Work in compliance with health and safety guidelines, maintaining a tidy work area
  • Collaborate with team members to improve workflows and resolve build-related issues

Requirements

  • Time-served mechanical fitter or engineer with relevant trade background
  • Recognised mechanical engineering qualification
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles and component assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Confident using both hand and power tools; familiarity with machine tools is a bonus
  • Previous fabrication experience is advantageous
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to lead by example and uphold high professional standards
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a fast-paced production team
