Mechanical Fitter Special Purpose Machinery Assembly
A busy and established engineering firm is currently looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to support the assembly of bespoke machinery. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building a variety of mechanical systems from engineering drawings, ensuring high-quality standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical components and systems based on technical drawings and specifications
- Perform general sub-assembly and full machine build tasks, from small parts to large sections
- Install bearings, taper lock pulleys, gears, and associated drive components
- Route and fit pneumatic and hydraulic pipework
- Use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Carry out inspections to verify quality and accuracy of completed assemblies
- Work in compliance with health and safety guidelines, maintaining a tidy work area
- Collaborate with team members to improve workflows and resolve build-related issues
Requirements
- Time-served mechanical fitter or engineer with relevant trade background
- Recognised mechanical engineering qualification
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles and component assembly
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Confident using both hand and power tools; familiarity with machine tools is a bonus
- Previous fabrication experience is advantageous
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Able to lead by example and uphold high professional standards
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a fast-paced production team
